27 February 2008 — Rosewood’s inside game was no match against Ayden-Grifton in the semi-finals of the Carolina 1-A Conference Tournament. The Chargers dealt the Eagles a 66-32 loss Thursday.

The loss followed a win in the opening round of the tournament as Rosewood was able to use a strong inside game to top North Duplin, 52-48 last Tuesday.
This Tuesday the Eagles are on the road in the first round of the state playoffs. They will have their hands full with West Columbus.

Last Tuesday the Eagles got a strong start in the first round as senior post man Holt Rains helped get the offense kick-started with nine first quarter points as Rosewood opened a 19-12 lead in the first quarter.
The Duplin defense tightened down on the big man as he had only three more field goals the rest of the way. The Eagle offense started struggling big time in the third quarter as they could only muster two field goals, those from Rains.

In the final quarter, with the Rebels suddenly threatening, senior Stephen McIntyre opened things up with outside shots and cuts to the basket. He hit on six of his eight points in the quarter as Rosewood held off the Rebel charge.
While Rains led Rosewood with 19 points on the night, the other man at the post, Tyler Muntz was quietly amassing a solid 13-point effort.

Thursday night at Mt. Olive College, McIntyre and Taylor Allen tried to get the outside game going in the first half, but the Chargers completely shut down the Eagles’ inside game. Both Rains and Muntz were shut out through three quarters.
Ayden-Grifton, meanwhile was lighting things up on their end, and claimed a 38-16 lead at the half. For much of the second half they were up by 30 points.

McIntyre led Rosewood with ten points, while Allen added seven for the Eagles.
Rosewood took a 9-14 mark into Tuesday’s state playoff match.
