Birth announcement

Richard and Tonya Ezzell Reliford, along with Hunter and Alexis, of Princeton, announce the birth of a son and brother, Ethan Cole, on February 22 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He weighed seven pounds, five ounces and was 20 and a half inches long. Maternal grandparents are Thomas and Janie Ezzell of Pikeville, and paternal grandparents are Phyllis Reliford of Smithfield and Richard Reliford of Hickory. Hilda Ezzell of Goldsboro is the maternal great-grandmother.


Little Relay Stars
Baby Photo Contest

The first annual Little Relay Stars Baby Photo Contest is an American Cancer Society/Johnston County Relay for Life fundraiser, and is now in progress. Babies of not more than 24 months of age by May 31, 2008, may be entered. One 8x10 photo and two wallet-sized photos, along with a $25 fee, are needed for the application. To apply or for more information, please contact Helen Stanley at 963-1142 or Brenda Lee at 963-2054. Deadline for applicants is March 31. All applicants' pictures will be on display at Johnston Medical & Surgical Supply in the Medical Mall on Brightleaf Blvd., then published in local papers in early April. Winners will be announced and awards given at the Relay during the closing ceremony on May 31. All proceeds, including the application fee, will go to the Johnston County Relay.


sheriff's report

Lisa Westbrook of Longleaf Rd., Princeton, reported a breaking, entering and larceny at her home to Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday at 6:34 p.m. Taken were a Playstation 2 and two games valued at $180.


Girl Scout cookies on sale

Princeton Girl Scout Troop 1484 is selling Girl Scout Cookies now through March 16. They will be at Selma Food Lion on March 1, and at Wal-Mart in Smithfield on March 14 and 15. Thank you to the many customers who have already purchased cookies. Customers can also contact Troop Leader Leigh-Ann Pearce to order cookies.


Bulldog Reverse Drawing

The 15th Annual Bulldog Reverse Drawing ticket sales have begun. The drawing will be held at the Princeton School Cafeteria on Sat., April 12 at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $50 each, with a final prize of $5,000 cash. You can purchase tickets from any booster club member or Athletic Director Al Musgrave. Proceeds to benefit Princeton Athletics.

Fundraiser suppers

The Oakland Fire Department will be selling barbecue pork plates on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. Princeton Baptist Church will hold a spaghetti supper on Sunday.


Benefit concert

A benefit concert will be held at Johnston Community Church of Selma on March 8 at 6 p.m., featuring The Sequel, In His Name, and 3 Scars. The concert is the senior project of Morgan Thornton, "Keeping Hope Alive." Donations will help provide Easter baskets for Falcon Children's Home. A donation of $5 or fillers for the Easter baskets will be accepted at the door. For more information, please call 965-3736.


Champions for Children

Who cares for your children when you can’t be with them? This is your opportunity to say thank you.  The Partnership for Children of Johnston County is accepting Champions for Children nominations through Friday, March 7th for teachers, preschool educators and those who work directly with children from birth to five years old. Nominees will be recognized and honored during the Champions for Children Provider Appreciation Banquet Saturday, March 15th for their dedication to improving the lives of young children.  Cost is $5 for nomination and/or banquet reservation.  The banquet will be held at the Johnston County Agricultural Center in Smithfield from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Nominate your Champion for Children today by calling 202-0002 or e-mail creger@pfcjc.org. 


Storage items recovered

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is looking for assistance with locating the owner of stolen property from a storage bin or storage facility. The Sheriff’s Office has seized a large amount of property that has possibly been taken from a storage unit in Wayne County. The property includes NASCAR items, authentic sport items and other toy like items. If you have had a break-in to a storage unit that has not been reported, please call Detective David Rose at 919-731-1541 and give him a detailed list of your stolen property.
