Bulldogs have some catching up to do

5 March 2008 — The defending State 1-A Baseball Champions and No. 1 ranked team have started the baseball season more like a young, struggling team than the best in the state.

Princeton opened the season with a 14-6 loss to West Johnston at the Bulldog diamond Saturday. Monday they took a 12-1 loss at Aycock (who is defending 3-A state champ).

In Saturday’s game, Benton Myers fueled the Princeton offense with two his including a two-run homer. Cameron Harris added two hits, including a double. Princeton was limited to just five hits on the evening.

Christopher Hinton was the starter for the Bulldogs.

West collected 11 hits, but only had one earned run.

Monday Michael Radford led Princeton’s offense with two doubles in three trips to the plate. The Dawgs were limited to just six hits, but committed six errors.

Aycock jumped out to a three run first inning lead, and padded it through four. The game was called on the ten-run rule after Princeton failed to score in the top of the fifth.

Dylan Daughtry started for Princeton and went three innings. Matt Leverette went one inning in relief.

Yesterday, Midway was coming to the Bulldog diamond if the rains hold off. Saturday they travel to West Johnston. Tuesday they are at Fike.
