Princeton, Rosewood lose out in playoffs
5 March 2008 — The local basketball teams are moving on to spring sports.
The Princeton boys made round two of the state playoffs before bowing, taking a 44-43 win at home last Tuesday over Weldon, and then succumbing at Creswell, 59-54, Thursday.

The Rosewood boys fell in the first round at West Columbus, 74-41.
The Princeton girls fell last Monday in their first round game (see last week’s News Leader).
Last Tuesday Weldon gave Princeton and their home fans all they could handle. With seconds to go they had a 43-42 lead and a free throw coming.

The Chargers’ free throw shooting again haunted them, as they missed their sixth of the night, making only five.
Princeton controlled the rebound, getting the ball quickly down court, maybe a little too quickly, but they got it in the hands of sure free throw shooting Josh Barefoot who they fouled. The senior calmly put away both shots to give Princeton a lead, 44-43, with 12 seconds left.

Weldon got the ball back down the court, but the frantic shots at the end couldn’t find the net.
Princeton jumped out to an early lead as Christopher Hinton kept getting loose underneath for easy buckets.

Both defenses tightened up in the second quarter for what would be a defensive struggle.
Daughtry had his three-point shot going, as he hit four on the way to a 17-point night. Barefoot and Benton Myers also hit threes for the Bulldogs.
Princeton couldn’t put the Chargers away all night, and at the end, they were poised to spring the upset.
Barefoot had 12 points, while Hinton added ten.
The Princeton offense went south in the first half at Creswell, with the Bulldogs only scoring 11 points in the first 16 minutes of play. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 19 before Daughtry and Barefoot got it going.
The Bulldogs got the lead down to two, but Creswell hit free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
The two seniors ended their last game with 17 points apiece.
At West Columbus last Tuesday, the Eagles played a good first half and were only down by six, but the Vikings buried Rosewood in the second half.
Tyler Muntz led Rosewood with 13 points, while Holt Rains added ten.
