Daughtry holds back Midway, N. Johnston

12 March 2008 — The Bulldogs got their ace on the mound for the first time last Tuesday, and it paid off with their first win of the season.

Ryan Daughtry toed the rubber for four innings against Midway, and he held the Raiders scoreless on the way to a 4-3 home win.

The win, combined with a 14-4 loss to North Johnston Thursday, leaves Princeton at 3-1 in the young season.

Last Tuesday Daughtry spread four hits over the four innings of work, all singles. He recorded three strikeouts and allowed two walks in his first mound appearance after the recently concluded basketball season.

Christopher Hinton came on in relief to finish up. In three innings he gave up three singles and a double. He also recorded three strikeouts and four walks, while allowing three earned runs.

A scheduled Saturday game with West Johnston was moved up to Thursday after showers were forecast for the weekend. The bigger county school again rocked the Bulldogs.

Cameron Harrison took the loss for Princeton.

The Wildcats connected for 13 hits, while Princeton was limited to just five. The Bulldogs also committed two errors, while WJ went errorless.

A scheduled makeup game Monday was cancelled after the death of Katlyn Bell.

Princeton was scheduled to play at Fike Tuesday and at Midway on Friday. Next Tuesday they host Union and Wednesday Fike comes to Princeton.
