Rosewood Middle at Vocal Festival

12 March 2008 — On Saturday March 1, students from Eastern Wayne Middle, Norwayne Middle, Rosewood Middle, and Grantham participated in the North Carolina Middle School Vocal Solo/Small Ensemble Festival at St. James United Methodist Church in Greenville, North Carolina. All of the students earned either Excellent or Superior Ratings.
           
The North Carolina Music Educators Association sponsored the music
competition. The results are as follows:

Norwayne Middle: Michelle Walker: Instructor; Haley Altizer: Superior rating; Morgan Hooks: Superior rating; Gabriel Morales: Superior rating; Claudia Thompson: Superior rating; Alex Alves: Superior rating; Celest Anderson: Superior rating; Mackenzie Baker: Superior rating; Amber Lane: Superior rating; Jessica Robbins: Superior rating; Mikayla Blackburn: Excellent rating; and Yuna Uehara: Excellent rating.

Rosewood Middle: Lisa West: Instructor; Laura Vinson: Superior rating; Emily Warren: Superior rating; Armani Perry: Superior rating; Morgan Pettigrew: Superior rating; Anecia Stevens: Excellent rating; Zhane Watson: Excellent rating; Crystal Barnett: Excellent rating; Shaquilla Jones: Excellent rating; Rashawn Grimsley: Excellent rating; Ellen Margarett Arnette: Excellent rating; and Ashley Hitchner: Excellent rating.

The Cobra Choir Ensemble, made up of nine 7th and 8th graders, also received a rating of Superior for their performance of "My America" and "Radiator Lions".  The Grantham School 7th and 8th Grade Chorus, under the direction of Jaime Cox, received a rating of Excellence for their performances of “Antiphonal Alleluia” and “Kyrie Eleison.”

“We are proud of every one of these students for how hard they worked to earn Excellent and Superior ratings in this competition. Because of their dedication and discipline, these students proved themselves to be worthy competitors, and made fine representatives of Wayne County Public Schools,” states Dr. Steven Taylor, Superintendent.
