Wellons named principal for new Princeton Elementary

19 March 2008 — The new school’s principal comes from a family with many years service to and connection with Princeton School.

Kim Wellons was named the principal for the new Princeton Elementary School last week at the Johnston County School Board meeting. The appointment is effective April 1.

For the past two years she has served as principal at Four Oaks Elementary, taking that post in January of 2006.

Mrs. Wellons was a special education teacher at Princeton beginning in 1987. In 1992 she moved to the central office to work with the Exceptional Children’s program. She returned to Princeton for the ’97-98 school year, but moved the next year to Micro-Pine Level as assistant principal. In 2001 she was appointed principal there, serving there until moving to Four Oaks in 2006.

The Robeson County native got her undergraduate degree in exceptional children education at Pembroke in 1978. She got her master’s in special education in 1986 from Fayetteville State. In ’92 she got her degree in education administration from East Carolina.

She is married to Bryant Wellons, who is a teacher at the high school. They have two children, Megan, who is a senior at ECU majoring in special education, and Mandy, a sophomore at NC State studying biology.

Mrs. Wellons is very excited and sees the move as a great opportunity.
