2 April 2008 — A seventh inning rally fell short Friday night, and Rosewood held on to win the Eagle, er, Deacon Jones Easter Invitational for the third straight year.

Princeton has hosted the tournament for seven years, but Rosewood has owned the tournament for the past three. That ownership was thrown in question in the late innings as Princeton attempted a rally.
With two outs in the seventh, and Princeton down by an 8-2 count, Adam Peedin reached first after being hit by a pitch. Pat Jacobs followed with a single, and Mike Radford’s single loaded the bases for Ryan Daughtry. The big knocker who had homered earlier in the game lofted another long fly, but this one would not get out, and looked to be a possible third out. The Eagle centerfielder could not get underneath in time to make the catch, and it went for a triple.

Brandon Myers’ single to left made it 8-6.
Rosewood’s Cody Richards, who was later named tourney MVP, came up with the right stuff at the important time, retiring Dillon Daughtry for the third out on three straight pitches.
Rosewood began the game looking to make it a rout, batting around in the first inning on the way to a six run starting frame. After some early season struggles to score, the Eagles connected for five singles off Bulldog started Mike Radford. The right-hander hit the first batter he faced, Robert Franks, and the gave up singles to Matt Neal, Holt Rains, Richards, Will Beasley and Eric Montel. Steven Bostic reached on a dropped fly to center.
Radford settled down and allowed just one more run through five innings.
Dillon Daughtry pitched the final two frames and only allowed an unearned run in the seventh.

Matt Neal handcuffed the Princeton hitters early, and got the key out when needed.
Daughtry got his solo homer in the fourth to get Princeton on the scoreboard. Josh Bizzell scored Princeton’s second run after his single, advancing on a base on balls and an error.
Neal ended the night with six strikeouts, allowing two walks, six hits and six runs.
Neal was the only Eagle with two hits on the night.
Ryan Daughtry ended the night with three hits, the only Bulldog with more than one hit.
In addition to MVP Richards, Taylor Allen, Steven Bostic, Matt Neal and Will Beasley were named to the all tournament team from Rosewood. Ryan Daughtry, Dillon Daughtry and Michael Radford were all named from Princeton.
