Eagles 1-A win puts Bulldogs in tie for second

23 April 2008 —

By Jon Therrien
NL Staff Writer

The hosting Eagles soared over the Princeton High School Bulldogs 7-2 in their 1A Carolina Conference varsity baseball Tuesday.

The win forced a two-way tie between the two teams for second place.

The Eagles posted two runs in the first inning when Matt Neal hit a home run plating Robert Fanks and himself.

Princeton tied it up at two all in the third. Mike Radford and Ryan Daughtry each singled and scored on fielder’s choices.

Eagle Will Beasley drove home two runs in the fifth and advanced home on a hit by Eric Martel.

Rosewood chalked up two more runs in the sixth when Scott Pate stole home. Pitcher Taylor Allen singled and courtesy runner Jonathan Franks stole third and home on errors.

Rosewood’s Robert Franks posted one single and one double each and scored once while Neal had one single and crossed home once.

Allen tallied one double, single each, and scored twice while Martel had one single. Scott Pate doubled once and scored once.
Allen gave up two runs and six hits on the mound.

Bulldogs Patrick Jacobs, Benton Myers, and Ryan Daughtry each singled once. Radford singled twice.

Eagle Coach Josh Smith said, “I think the boys were hungry for a win. The loss against North Duplin Friday night really motivated them.”

Smith said, “It’s a huge game. It closes out the first half of the season against a great ball club. To be able to beat Princeton and then go into the second half is a great feeling.”

Princeton Coach Bruce Proctor said, “We need to make some plays when we need to make them.”

Princeton is currently 7-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference and will host county and conference foe, North Johnston High School, on Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. and will travel to Ayden-Grifton High School the following Tuesday also at 7 p.m.

Rosewood is currently 8-7 and 3-2, and will travel to Seven Springs on Friday, April 25 to take on their conference and county rival, the Spring Creek High School Lady Gators. Game time is 7 p.m.

On Monday, April 28, Rosewood will visit Wilson Beddingfield at 5 p.m. for a non-conference duel. The Eagles will go head-to-head with North Duplin Jr./Sr. High School at home on Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
