Mitchell receives Hinnant Scholarship

7 May 2008 — Anna Hobbs and George Mitchell received the Charles B. and Margenette A. Hinnant Music Scholarship at Mount Olive College’s Annual Awards Day.
The Charles B. and Margenette A. Hinnant Music Scholarship is given in memory of Charles B. and Margenette A. Hinnant. Mr. Hinnant was a member of the Mount Olive College Board of Trustees for many years. The recipient, a music major who exhibits exceptional talent, is chosen by the music faculty.
Incoming freshman Anna Hobbs is the daughter of Barry and Joy Hobbs of China Grove, NC. Hobbs attends South Rowan High School. She will be a vocal performance major at MOC.
George Mitchell is the son of Michael and Amy Mitchell of Princeton. He is a music education major specializing in guitar. He is currently a member of the Concert Choir and Free Spirit and plays guitar in the Chapel praise band. Mitchell is a member of Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church where he sings in the choir and plays in a praise band, Three in One. He has served as district president of the Western District Youth Convention and continues to be active at the district level. Mitchell is a graduate of Princeton High School.
“George Mitchell is one of those students you love to be around, because he is always positive, with an infectious laugh and a joyful spirit,” stated Dr. Alan Armstrong, chair of the Department of Music at MOC. “He has improved as a performer by leaps and bounds, and is a worthy recipient of the Hinnant Scholarship.”
