Mr. B named to
Johnston Hall of Fame
7 May 2008 — Fred Bartholomew, affectionately known as “Mr. B,” was inducted into the Johnston County Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 26 at West Johnston High School at Benson.
In 1970, Mr. B moved to Princeton and became the principal of Princeton High School. Mr. B’s contributions to the school in his 28 years as principal include initiating educational and athletic programs for both the middle and high school.
He is also credited for establishing one of the first two sports medicine programs with a nationally certified trainer in Johnston County.
Under his direction, Mr. B. oversaw construction of a new football field, renovation of a high school gym, and construction of the middle school gym. He also helped with two new tennis courts, two new baseball fields and softball fields with lights and irrigation, as well as a new fieldhouse.
Mr. B served on the board of directors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) from 1982-1986. He was also on the NCHSAA executive committee during the same time.
In 2000, Mr. B. was elected to the Johnston County School Board and served as the chairman from 2002-2007. In that time, he played an instrumental role in obtaining two bond referendums.
Mr. B. was also elected to the North Carolina School Board Association as an All-State Board Member.
He currently lives in Princeton with his wife Deanne. The couple have three children and four grandchildren.
