Hit and run suspect sought
An accident involving a car traveling in the wrong direction occurred on U.S. 70 in Princeton early Sunday morning.
Authorities searched for the driver, described as a Hispanic male who fled the car, which contained numerous empty beer cans.
The condition of the victims or the whereabouts of the suspect has not yet been made available.
Slaughterhouse approved
County commissioners at their last meeting agreed to allow construction of an abattoir just southwest of Princeton, by owners that in the past conducted a business for the mass slaughter of lambs for religious ritual.
Kenneth Rowe and his son, Eddie, own approximately 300 acres of land near Princeton, and plan to construct a custom slaughterhouse which would span a two-acre tract in the Boon Hill Township.
For years the Rowes have been involved in a fierce legal battle with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture regarding the nature of their business.
It has been reported that animals on the property have in the past been sacrificed as part of a Muslim religious ritual during Eid al-Adha, or Festival of Sacrifice.
There were no objections by the commissioners or any of the citizens present during the meeting.

Jones crowned Queen of Fair
Holly Jones, a 16-year-old junior at Rosewood High School was named “2008 Queen of the Fair,” Friday night at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair in Goldsboro.
Her prize was a $2,000 scholarship to Mt. Olive College.
Meanwhile, Vividiana Delgado, a junior at Rosewood, gained a tie in the Miss Congeniality competition.
Jones also won the talent competition singing a rendition of “Broken Wing.”
She credited her mother, Tammy, for encouraging her to join the competition, even though she had failed to win an earlier Miss Rosewood pageant. Her mother also nurtured Holly’s love for singing. It was not her first time on stage, however; along with being a member of the school’s chorus, she also has performed with the Southern Star Band.
